先日書いたAirPrint対応の次善策としてGT110bの活用を模索。

何はともあれGT110bにCUPS(Common Unix Printing System)とプリンタドライバをインストール。

ちなみにキャノンのページプリンタ用のPDL(ページ記述言語)はLIPSだが、プリンタインタフェースの種類としてはLIPS4、LIPS LX、CAPT、CARPS2の違いがあってややこしい。

MF4400の場合はCARPS2らしいので、LIPSLX/CARPS2 Printer Driver for Linux Ver.5.10で良さそうだ。

GT110bにUSBで接続し、プリンタを登録するに倣ってポチポチしていくと

てな感じに登録されるので、テストプリントで問題なければ完了。

実際はGUIじゃなかったのでエラー終了し、lpadminなどごにょごにょ叩いて試行錯誤したのだが。

続いて、ネットワーク共有するためにufwにCUPS(631/TCP)の穴開けを行い、 /etc/cups/cupsd.confにも Order allow,deny のところにAllowにするアドレス情報を列挙。

そして、Avahiの設定。 AirPrintするためだけにUbuntuでAvahi-daemonを動かしてみました。を鵜呑みにして/etc/avahi/service/AirPrint-Canon_MF4400_Series.serviceまで作ったが、よく考えるとAirPrint非対応のプリンタ情報が

avahi-browse -atr

で出力されるって事はAvahiが自動的に認識して喋っているという事なので、特に設定をしなくてもプラグアンドプレイでイケるようだ。

追伸、BTY備忘録によると

$ sudo apt install apparmor-utils
$ sudo aa-complain cupsd

も必要なようだ。

先日故障した複合機「MultiWriter 200F」。

唯一の存在意義だったAirPrint対応プリンタがなくなったので、2012年に調達した「Satera MF4420n」をAirPrint対応に仕立ててみる事に。

まずはAirMac Express MC414J/A(2012)のUSB接続を試してみたのだが、Macのリモートプリンタになれるものの、AirPrintとは違うようだ。

…って事で行き詰まっていたのもあり、「MultiWriter 200F」を調達したという経緯も思い出した。

しかし、Macを介することでAirPrint対応に仕立てる方法があるらしいとわかり、Late2006なMac miniを再起動。Snow Leopard化(2011)してたので、「AirPrint Activator」改め「HandyPrint」を使えば簡単にできるかと思ったのだが、v3.1.5をダウンロードはできるもののインストールできない。

handyPrint (AirPrint Activator)をよく読むと、

handyPrint™ v3.1 is a 64bit (core 2 duo or better) Mac OSX application that allow you to print from your iPods, iPads and iPhones on legacy printers that do not support the AirPrint protocol. handyPrint™ is the new name for our application that used to be called “AirPrint Activator”. We have decided to rename the application to avoid using the Apple trademark ‘AirPrint™’. With the 3.1.1 release, we simply renamed the application handyPrint™. This version is compatible with iOS4.3, iOS5 & iOS6 and will run on OSX Snow Leopard (10.6), Lion (10.7) and Mountain Lion (10.8). It is a complete re-write of the previous version 2.
